The 1948 Jaguar Mark IV 3 ½ Litre Drophead Coupe is featured here in the stunning and highly sought after color combination of black over a red leather interior with a beige three-position folding convertible top. This particular example was completed by the Coventry works in June 1948 and was subsequently distributed through Hoffman in New York. The Mark IV was just released from the private collection of Prof. Dean Edmonds Jr.

A Doctoral graduate of MIT and professor of Physics at Boston University, Mr. Edmonds is credited for his work on developing the cesium atomic clock and today is recognized with his name on the Wall of Honor in the National Air and Space Museum at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. A respected automotive collector and connoisseur in his own wright, his personal collection included several other notable Jaguars and even a Bugatti Type 55 Super Sport! This Mark IV has been subjected to a comprehensive restoration with over $130,000 invested including a full engine rebuild.

Having been under the meticulous care of Mr. Edmonds for over a decade the Mark IV presents and performs wonderfully today. As considered a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America, the Mark IV is eligible for all CCCA events and is certain to bring many years of enjoyment to its next caretaker.

Produced from 1945 to 1949, Jaguar’s 3½ Litre (referred to today as the Mark IV) was offered as either a sports saloon or a traditional Drophead Coupe with a three position convertible top. Only 664 Drophead Coupes were produced with 407 of them being left-hand drive export models. As stunning of a design today as it was then, the Jaguar Mark IV offers pre-war British motoring appeal with post-war refined mechanicals. It is no wonder why examples are cherished by collectors and enthusiasts throughout the world.
