Red C8 Corvette: Make A Wish For A 100-Year-Old Woman Before Her Death.

When you’ve lived a century, there likely aren’t too many things you haven’t experienced.

But as she celebrated her 100th birthday this week, Audrey Matheson of Phoenix, Arizona managed to find something new that she had always wanted to do.

“I asked her if there was anything she wanted to do before she died and she told me to ride in a red Corvette convertible,” said Nicki Reyes with Girl Friday. “So, I reached out to a local Corvette club to see if they could help make that happen.”

East Valley Corvette Club was more than happy to help surprise Audrey with not just one but a whole parade of Corvettes, including a shiny Torch Red C8 hardtop convertible owned by Navy man Jim Dunkelberger.

ABC15 reporter Cameron Polom was there for the big ride, which brought a huge smile to the birthday girl’s face.

“She wanted to go fast,” Jim said with a laugh afterwards.

Born in 1922, Audrey was married for more than 50 years but was quick to point out to the reporter that even a century later, she doesn’t have all the answers.

“If I was good at advice, I would have taken it myself,” Audrey said with a laugh.

Besides the Corvette ride, she was also surprised during the party with visits from a wallaby thanks to Dylan Capshaw Wildlife Foundation and firefighters from the Scottsdale Fire Department in their fire truck.

“They wanted me to celebrate to the hilt, so I guess that’s what we’re doing,” said Audrey.

It all added up to a very special day for a very special 100-year-old, surrounded by family and friends.

“She’s a wonderful little lady – we just love her,” said one neighbor through tears.

“Just proud of her, she’s a maverick, she’s a maverick,” said another.

As for Audrey herself, she admitted being “a bit shaken up,” adding “it’s been quite a day.”

“Thank you everyone so much,” she concluded. “My heart is definitely full.”

  1. This design is spectacular! You obviously know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Wonderful job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!|
