Sometimes, the good things are those hidden from plain sight. This is especially true when someone finds a good old classic car lurking inside a garage for several years. Such barn finds may yield a rare classic car or even an iconic vintage vehicle. Perhaps turning them over could result in a sizable return.

This certain Chevrolet Camaro SS from the 1971 model year is one of the more than just a thousand examples that featured a big block 402-ci engine. Its owner recently posted it up for sale online after keeping this Chevrolet classic in his shop for several years.

Features A Big Block 402-CI V8 Under Its Hood

This 1971 Chevrolet Camaro SS is one of those that received the SS 396 name despite having a 402-ci big block engine under its hood. For those wondering, Chevrolet actually chose not to change the “SS 396” badge to “SS 402” despite the V8 engine actually displaying 402 cubic inches.

According to barnfinds.com, Chevy actually built 114,630 Camaros in 1971 and only 8,777 of them were SS models. Of these nearly 9,000 SS models, only around 1,533 examples had the 402-ci V8 motor.

Mated to a TH-400 automatic transmission, the big block 402-ci V8 engine of this 1971 Camaro SS 396 needs some work, including some alignment and tuning. He added that the classic muscle comes with a new summit camshaft plus a number of parts.

These include components lifters, push rods, timing chain cover, and a set of pistons The parts came with the car when he purchased it and is part of the current sale. However, he didn’t indicate when he took possession of this 1971 Camaro SS 396.

A Complete Car Except For Front And Rear Glasses

Most of the car’s exterior sections are now glistening in gray primer. However, the seller indicates that this 1971 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 came out of the factory in Placer Gold with a black interior. It’s unknown what happened to this car in the past 51 years but the seller is confident that it has not been in an accident and the body and frame remain straight.

Featuring a clean title, this 1971 Camaro SS 396 originally had an a/c, power steering, and front disc brakes. As per the seller, the car will come with several bins of parts. These include extras that he removed for restoration as well as a set of original 15”x 7” Z/28 wheels. The 1971 Camaro SS 396 is a complete car except for its missing front and rear glasses.
