It’s Alive! Unfinished 1959 Corvette Project Hidden Under Boxes

This story starts, like so many barn- and garage-find stories, with a gearhead and his dreams. JP Romeo’s wife’s uncle bought a modified 1959 Chevrolet Corvette with the dream of building it up. The car was running when bought, but was far from original, so they felt the best plan was to turn it into a really nice street-strip car.

Well, as is common in these stories, life got in the way. The uncle kept buying parts and stacking them up in the garage but never really had the time to dive into the project. The last activity was over a decade ago, and since then, the car has been frozen in time, surrounded by boxes of new parts just waiting to find their way onto the Corvette.

Window trim, new seats, new top, carpet, new seat covers, bumpers, and box after box of OE and reproduction parts came with the car. The frame is solid, and the paint, though not close to show-quality, is decent. Romeo works in construction, so he knows all about planning out a build project, but even so the new Corvette in the garage nearly has his mind vaporlocked about what to tackle first.

We told him to make sure the frame and chassis are rock-solid and then build out from there. Get the old ‘Vette running, and if he can’t afford paint, wrap it for now and get it on the road! With a wife and three kids at home Romeo has a pretty full plate. Letting the kids help with the build may or may not speed up the project, but it will sure make it more fun! We made Romeo promise to hit us up with a progress report next year as he works to get his uncle-in-law’s 1959 Corvette back on the road where it belongs!
