Years Spent Outside, Exposed To The Elements, Would Seem To Cripple A Classic Muscle Car.

Last year, Barnfinds member Alan F. was seeking for a new project car and, despite his reservations, had reduced his selections down to a 1968 Yenko Chevelle replica.

But before closing the sale, he called an old high school acquaintance who had owned a Pontiac GTO Judge for a long time. This is when the arboreal discovery comes in handy.

The GTO was still in the friend’s possession, but it had a tree growing through the engine bay. According to Barnfinds, the owner purchased the automobile in the late 1970s, and one of the car’s pushrods finally failed, so the owner removed the engine and transmission, which sat in the garage awaiting a repair that never came.

Alan, on the other hand, was not willing to let this muscle automobile go to waste, even though he hadn’t seen it in person in 30 years. He ordered a history study to verify the GTO Judge credentials, which he found to be authentic, and then proceeded to purchase the Pontiac from an old high school friend. The automobile was on its way to a new home… over 2,000 miles away.

Surprisingly, the weather seems to have been kind to this Pontiac GTO. The tires held air when pumped up despite its years outside, and a tractor successfully pulled the Pontiac from its forested resting place when the tree was chainsawed out of the engine bay.

Even more amazing, the floorpans and frame are claimed to be in good condition, and the interior is said to be in good shape, save for a few stray mice.

The only significant structural adjustment, according to Alan, is to replace the trunk pan, which has been damaged by the elements.

What about the drivetrain? The car’s original numbers-matching engine block, heads, carburetor, transmission, bell housing, hood, and Ram-Air parts, among other components, were discovered from a neighboring farm.

Its beauty has already began to peek through after a little spritz at a nearby car wash, and it will only grow better and better. The Judge is coming back on the road, and we’re excited to see how it goes.
