A Look Back At The Amazing 2018 Lowrider Las Vegas Super Show

Las Vegas is probably the most sought-after destination for those who want to party in the most extreme and extravagant way imaginable; pretty much every block of the city is filled with nightlife establishments in the form of clubs, casinos, over-the-top bars, and anything else the most optimistic party animal could ask for.

During the day, while most people stay away from the extreme heat in an attempt to fend off the previous night’s hangover, thousands of different events take place each year, and that includes car shows. Since 1998, Vegas has been the host of the Las Vegas Lowrider Super Show, which is a car show that exclusively features American hot-rod classic car models with the most otherworldly and eye-catching configurations possible.

Overview Of The 2018 Las Vegas Super Show

As is the norm, the Lowrider Super Show from 4 years ago was loaded to the rafters with a seemingly endless array of classic American muscle cars, trucks, and even bikes. So long as they fit the lowrider theme and involved the most extravagant color schemes and design cues, they were right at home at the Vegas Convention Center.

The whole point of the show is to showcase cars as literal art pieces, so drivability, performance, and technology are completely pushed aside. The only mechanical prowess vehicles at the Lowrider Super Show must be able to showcase is the ability to raise and lower themselves to the extreme through the incorporation of bagged air suspension – hence the name of the show.

A Look At The 2018 Lowrider Super Show’s Flashiest Cars

Out of all the awards that were given out in the 2018 Las Vegas Super Show, the most prestigious was and always is – without a doubt, the Lowrider of the Year award. The winner that year was a banger, and it came in the form of a 1957 convertible Chevy Bel Air put together by Bobby Garza. Named ‘Double Trouble’, the award-winning Bel Air featured a mesmerizing gloss-blue exterior paint job with turquoise, pink and purple accents along with other shades of blue. Down the rear fenders, a detailed painting is incorporated into the body to finish off the vehicle’s magnificent exterior.

Upfront, the ‘Double Trouble’ Bel Air was finished in sculpted silver trimmings all over – including the grille and bumper, and the exposed engine bay featured a mixture of blue and silver accents, along with a twin-turbo setup on the engine itself. On the underside of the hood, another beautiful painting can be found as a hidden gem, skyrocketing the attention to detail on the vehicle masterpiece. Inside, the Chevy is upholstered with white leather and blue accents to complement the exterior.

Another coveted award at the Las Vegas Super Show is the Traditional of the Year title, and the 2018 winner was Rudy Trevino and his team with a 1959 Impala convertible called ‘Cloud 9’. Featuring a more laid-back two-tone blue paint job, the true beauty of this Impala is found in its immaculate bodywork and attention to detail. The gorgeous rear for which the ‘59 Impala is widely recognized features a spare wheel compartment fitted to the modified spoked silver bumper, and a painting designed to depict heaven and hell can be found upon the vehicle’s extensive trunk lid. Another noteworthy aspect of the 2018 Traditional of the Year winner is the engine bay, which is masterfully built and includes a pair of mean-looking cone-tipped air filters that are a true work of art.

Finally, worth mentioning is the Truck of the Year award for the 2018 Las Vegas Super Show, which was given to Gene Bare for his 1992 Chevy Silverado named ‘The Antidote’. The green-and-yellow-painted truck is as close to a real-life transformer as you could possibly imagine, featuring a body that’s pretty much entirely removable. The whole front end is front-latched, allowing it to be raised to expose the car’s engine, and the same can be said for the hatched roof, truck bed, and even reverse-latched doors that open up like a Rolls-Royce.

Many say that the 2018 Las Vegas Super Show was the best one to date, and with entries like the ones we just mentioned and several more, it’s hard to argue against such a claim. We can only hope that the future will continue to surprise us with truly breathtaking Lowriders, but our hopes are high in the hands of America’s most talented body shops.
