Antique 1927 Chevrolet Coup Barn Find.

My Father-in-law died and so did his dream of restoring his 1927 Chevrolet. Stored inside for the last 45 years. “Appears to be a restorable vehicle. Everythingremains relatively solid and everything is there. This may the most desirable 1927 Chevrolet to restore next to the roadster and while it is not running and will need a complete restoration it isstill a good find”

On October 2 2014 I personally visually inspected and evaluated the vehicle described below for the purpose of providing an estimation of the vehicle’s cash/fair market value today. I inspected the vehicle’s exterior interior chassis and engine compartment. A mechanical evaluation was conducted where possible. The evaluation is based upon authenticity preservation/restoration maintenance and/or replacement costs.

Vehicle Make & Year:1927 Chevrolet AA Sports Cabriolet.

This appears to be a relative solid 1927 Chevrolet AA Sports Cabriolet which is not running and has been sitting for numerous years. This is one of eight models Chevrolet produced in 1927 and may be the most desirable. It is in restorable condition and I will try to touch on more specific details in the following sections.

Engine/Engine Compartment:

Engine compartment is somewhat dirtywith the engine being covered in oil leakageaccumulation and rust setting in on the remainingparts and surfaces. The compartment does lookcomplete except for the radiator itself which shouldprobably be replaced anyway. It would appear to bethe original 170 cubic inch four cylinder engine withlittle done in the way of modification or changes.

Chassis:

Underside isrust covered but appears solid with only surfacerust and solid wood. Exhaust system will probablyneed replacement but everything else appears tobe present. Some oil accumulation is noticed onthe transmission as well as the engine. Front andrear bumpers are present and appear in faircondition with rust present but salvageable withsand blasting. The 30-4.50-21 tires are badly rottedhowever the wheels while rust covered should beable to be saved. The rear tire carrier is presentand undamaged.

Interior:

Interior remainsin fair condition with the upholstery actually lookingdecent however age has hardened the fabric and itwill need replacement. Floorboards appear solid.Steering wheel remains in good condition and can benicely restored. Gauges remain in fair condition andhave not discolored. All interior hardware appears to bepresent and should be salvageable.

Exterior:

Exteriorsheet metal is solid including running boards andfenders with the original paint still distinguishable.Fabric on the roof has deteriorated somewhat butmost is present as are the Cabriolet S moldings.Glass is separating and the rear window has severallarge chips but all is present. Radiator grill is rustcovered but shows no other damage. We wereunable to open the trunk however I am told it is notfitted with a rumble seat.

Appears to be a restorable vehicle. Everythingremains relatively solid and everything is there. This may the most desirable 1927 Chevrolet torestore next to the roadster and while it is notrunning and will need a complete restoration it isstill a good find however it does not command thehigher prices of many cars in this era. Pricing on avehicle like this is best determined by using acombination of paper valuation such as NADACollector cars and the 2014 Collector Car PriceGuide.
