Colonel Ghaddafi’s Son Has To Pay $450k To Retrieve The Car He Parked In An Italian Hotel 15 Years Ago.

Eleven years have passed since the death of Muammar Gaddafi, yet we still hear stories about this Libyan politician and political theorist. Naturally, there’s a lot to talk about regarding the person who was the leader of Libya for 42 years and ended up being one in a civil war. But we’re not here to talk about politics, and the story we refer to is actually the “legacy” of Muammar Gaddafi’s son.

Al-Saadi Gaddafi is a retired professional football player known for being the commander of Libya’s Special Forces and his involvement in the Libyan Civil War. But it has also been reported that he has a debt of $450,000 that dates way back from 2007.

Maybe Gaddafi’s son didn’t feel it was necessary to always pay for his hotel stays or travel by his car, for that matter. So, Al-Saadi Gaddafi left one Italian hotel 15 years ago without paying — all with his Cadillac Escalade ESV parked in the hotel’s car park. Now, there’s a huge bill he has to settle to get his car back. That’s if he still wants it.

Al-Saadi Gaddafi Left His Cadillac Escalade In Front Of Excelsior Hotel In Rapallo In 2007

Al-Saadi Gaddafi was pretty much considered a playboy back in the day, and his football career was mostly contributed to his father’s influence. In 2007, the young Gaddafi played for the Italian team Sampdoria, which led him to stay at the five-star Hotel Excelsior in Rapallo. Allegedly, his stay in the town of the Italian Riviera coastline was marked by loud all-night and all-day parties (that might even include barbeque on the suite’s terrace).

However, it seems that Sampdoria didn’t pay attention who Al-Saadi Gaddafi was, as the team let the player go rather quickly. Whether from revolt or not, it’s hard to say, but Al-Saadi left the hotel quickly without paying the bill! That was not even the most surprising act. What shocked the public is the fact that the former player’s ride remained neatly parked in front of the Hotel Excelsior.

Now, the Italian hotel is using Al-Saadi Gaddafi’s sleek looking Cadillac Escalade ESV as some kind of insurance. The former player can get it back only if he settles the bill he left unattended so many years ago, and those numbers are not insignificant!

The Five-Star Hotel Sued Gaddafi For Unpaid Bills And Wonv

Reportedly, the Italian hotel pushed forward many letters to nicely ask Al-Saadi Gaddafi to settle his bill. It seemed ridiculous that someone would leave behind a vehicle costing (at a time) about $70,000. But the response about the bill never came. Allegedly, Gaddafi only asked for the Cadillac Escalade back and didn’t mention any past dues.

The hotel ultimately had to make an ultimatum — the vehicle for the bill. The entire thing ended up on the court. Unsurprisingly, Hotel Excelsior won, and Al-Saadi Gaddafi was ordered to pay his debt and additional $4,330 in legal fees. Still, a lot of time has passed since the court made this decision, and nobody was able to make Gaddafi pay up. Does that mean the former football player cares very little for his old car?

Excelsior director Aldo Werdin told The Daily Mail: “We have been waiting 15 years for Mr Gaddafi to settle his bill. Over the last few years we have tried many times to try and get this matter resolved but with no success. We even contacted the Libyan Embassy in Rome, but they were unable to help.”

Gaddafi’s Cadillac Escalade May Sit Under The Sun For A Little While Longer

It’s hard to say whether Al-Saadi Gaddafi will ever settle his hotel bill, to be honest. After being released from jail recently, he set off for Turkey, and the car he drove 15 years ago probably wasn’t on his mind. We can only guess whether he has $450,000 to pay for his Cadillac Escalade or cares for it at all. It seems that the court is not further pursuing the matter anyway.

When it comes to the condition and well-being of the sadly forgotten Cadillac Escalade, the hotel takes good care of it. There’s no key for the ride, though, so employees can only give it a regular wash and let it sit there until Gaddafi decides to change his mind.

But the car in the hotel’s parking lot receives a lot of attention these days. It’s some kind of tourist attraction now. People come to see it or snap a picture whenever they are close to the Italian town. It’s not every day that someone leaves a $450,000 hotel bill and a car behind for 15 years.
