The 1970 Eldorado Lost The “Largest Engine” Tag To Two Wicked Dodges
At the time of its release, the 1970 Cadillac Eldorado featured the largest engine on the planet for any mass-produced vehicle. It took the world by surprise, and future customers were more than pleased to see the arrival of this record-breaking ride. Since then, though, unsurprisingly, many larger engines have been produced. Following its release, many competitors were eager to outdo Cadillac, and some would eventually do just that.
By the 2000s, this Caddy finally lost to the likes of Dodge Ram SRT10 with an 8.3-Liter V10 and Dodge Viper SRT with an 8.4-Liter V10. And till date, the tag of “world’s largest engine in a production car” is held by the Viper. However, none quite took the world by storm like the Eldorado. The Eldorado’s V8 would later become the standard engine for all full-size Cadillacs for the model years 1975 and 1976.
