This Is How Much A 1936 Jaguar SS 100 Is Worth Today.

Many classic car enthusiasts see the Jaguar as the hallmark of British automobile design.

There’s no way any true car enthusiast would discuss classic cars without mentioning the Jaguar SS 100. A collector’s gem, the SS 100 benefited from a tasteful design style that reached the interior and exterior. Built between 1936 and 1939, it was discontinued by the British automaker because of WWII.

It was a two-seater sports car capable of producing 70 hp, though it received a performance upgrade that jacked up its hp output to 100. It’s considered the epitome of pre-war British sports cars because they represented the finest of British automobile design.

This mini-feature looks back at this pre-war beauty, its incredible features, and its current cost price.

A Look Back At The Jaguar SS 100

The SS 100 was first constructed by SS Cars Ltd, a company based in Coventry, England. In 1945, the vehicle adopted the “Jaguar” moniker and had a top speed record of 100 mph. Jaguar was used because “SS” reminded many of the Nazi regime, hence why it could not be allowed to stand alone.

The “100”, however, exemplified the vehicle’s max output, which was 100 then. It was Sir William Lyons who designed the SS 100. The SS in SS 100 represents the first company that Lyons built before proceeding to start Jaguar.

Swallow Sidecar was the company that Lyons formed on his 21st birthday. Initially, business was slow, but then it picked up soon as it decided to build motor vehicles.

Around 300 units were produced because it was regarded as a showcase vehicle. Because of this, it’s an important classic car with a huge following. Let’s not forget that it possessed some distinct design features like curbed fenders, a long hood, bigger headlights, and a grille.

Features Of The Jaguar SS 100

Aside from the SS 100’s 104-inch wheelbase, the engine was a six-cylinder model fitted with an overhead valve and pistons culled from aluminum. There was also the pair of a robust bottom end and seven main bears.

A vital part of the engine was the duo of SU carburetors and a four-speed gearbox. The SS was available with either 2.5-liter or 3.5-liter engines. Later, the engineers worked on the engine which increased output to 125 hp. For that upgrade to succeed, engine components like transmission, differential, and driveshaft were replaced.

How Much Does The Famous Jaguar SS 100 Cost Today?

Earlier in this mini-feature, we mentioned that the SS 100 was available with two engine types. 190 units of the 2.5-liter model and 118 units of the 3.5-liter model were released.

Since it’s a rare vehicle, it must certainly have a steep starting price. Today, you can get one for between $242,000 and $820,953. Parameters like mileage and car condition will determine the price.
