Why Kiefer Sutherland Quickly Got Rid Of His 1967 Ford Mustang

Kiefer Sutherland (full name Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland, we know) is a badass actor that plays badass characters in movies and TV shows. Most of us know him as Agent Jack Bauer in the Fox television series 24. In real life, the veteran actor has a net worth of $100 million. In his LA residence, we can see a 1970 Ford Bronco and a BMW M3 that he drives regularly. But these cars are the result of his hard work and success, he was not always privileged. His first car was a 1967 Mustang, and a ‘67 is not a bad year for a Mustang at all.

So you think the Ford Mustang would’ve been his daily driver for a long time before he got all the acting jobs and got more money to get new cars. But that’s not the case, Kiefer instead did the opposite and got rid of his Mustang pretty quickly after one weirdly comical road trip incident. What was it, and was his decision right? Let’s find out some more details about it.

His Appearance On The Grand Tour

The Grand Tour is an Amazon original TV show featuring the world-famous trio of Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond as the hosts. The 3 British gentlemen got an offer for this series soon after they left Top Gear. From the second season onwards, they started featuring celebrity head-to-head competitions between 2 famous guests in a timed lap in the same car. For the 6th episode of the 2nd season ‘Jaaaaaaaags’, the show invited Keifer and Furious 6 star Luke Evans for their ‘Celebrity Face-Off’ segment. Before Jeremy shows us the timed laps and compares the 2 star’s times, he has a little chat with them, where they usually talk about their cars or their recent or upcoming movies. It was there where he mentioned that his first car was a ‘67 Mustang, and continued saying that he sold it pretty quickly after he got it.

Kiefer Sutherland’s Unusual Reason To Get Rid Of The Mustang:

In the show, Kiefer says that he had a couple of jobs in New York, so he got enough money to buy the car. Soon after that, he had another job waiting for him in Los Angeles. So he decided to drive from NY to LA in his newly bought Mustang. The trip went smoothly most of the way, but when he was driving across Texas, something uncanny happened. On his way, he started facing a very strong wind going in the opposite direction. He clarifies that he got the cheaper, less powerful Mustang, not the V8. That particular model was a 3.3-liter Inline-6 that only made 120 hp through a 3-speed manual. It seemed like the wind force was stronger than the car itself, so Kiefer says that his Mustang just stopped in the middle of the freeway! Soon after that, he got rid of his slow Mustang. While strong winds like that one don’t face us regularly, they do tend to change a person’s opinion on the requirement of power in their car.
