This Volvo 242 Combines Modern And Retro In Stunning New Concept

The Volvo 200 series sedan from the 1980s is one of those cars which, although not ancient or a bona fide classic just yet, still looks retro enough to turn the occasional head or two of a passing enthusiast.

Its boxy design is still very much alive on the US roads in various states of repair but we bet that there are few 200s that can lay claim to being the beneficiaries of – or victims – of the modification treatment.

With that in mind, we look at the bravest Volvo sedan makeover yet to make the rounds on the enthusiast side of the internet, thanks to the digital artisan Andreas Richter and their Instagram page.

This Custom Carbon Fiber Volvo 200 Series Sedan Is Retro And Then Some

It starts with a dream and a cheap workhorse that bears the scars of many years of dutifully carrying families to sports matches, shopping malls, recycling stations, schools, and much more.

This retro 80s car began life as a box on wheels but is unmistakable here in this render thanks to the classic Swedish design. The surprise here is that the body is wearing a lot of modified panels and aero but with carbon fiber draped over the whole thing.

In a dark garage on an inspection bay with pallets strewn around, the digital artisan knows what he is doing here by creating a certain ambiance to go with the shady city-underbelly theme.

The classic square quad headlights and rear clusters are present and correct but aside from that, the car looks more like a Nissan Skyline R34 GTR from the sides than a Volvo. However, this is in fact a Volvo 200-series sedan with just two doors.

Volvo’s 200-Series Is A Custom Classic Sedan Ready For The Track

Up front, the lowered Volvo has a custom bumper and front spoiler. Behind the front tires, the body kit has a large gap just like the space at the back of the car between the widebody kit and the original shell.

Andreas further modernizes this Volvo by adding airless tire technology. The rear has more than a few custom parts while retaining that classic look.

A large rear wing sits atop that iconic Volvo rear end while a large-bore dual tip exhaust compliments the substantial rear diffuser arrangement.

Our favorite touch would be the hole-punched rear trunk with circular holes in a row, adding a lot of drama to the design. With its massive aero and airless tires, this Volvo sedan concept has just the right amount of upgrades to bring it into the 21st century.
